The climatic conditions in our country are characterized by prolonged summer droughts, and the rainfall is usually weak and extremely insufficient for the proper development and growth of the vine. If the grapes do not get the necessary amount of water, the harvest sharply worsens. In order to avoid this risk, we recommend that vineyards be grown in irrigation conditions.

The drip irrigation is the most effective and rational method of watering of vine plantings.

The easy installation, the long service life and the ability to control the water supply suppose excellent conditions for growing vines, as they receive the optimal amount of water when they needs it.

Among the other advantages of this type of irrigation are:

  • the water is applied directly to the root system, thus reducing the water overconsumption and loss due to evaporation;
  • even distribution of the water;
  • water savings of 20% to 60% of the irrigation rate;
  • a healthy growth of vine plantings is ensured and a good root structure is developed;
  • automation of the irrigation process is achieved, which saves time and labor and facilitates the irrigation process;
  • once installed, the system can be used for years;
  • the drip irrigation system can also be used for application of liquid fertilizers.

In case of water deficiency, the vine reacts violently. In most cases, this reaction is expressed in:

  • reduction of growth force with marked depression of growth of shoots;
  • leaf decoloration where the lower leaves acquire a dull color with subsequent fading, withering and partial yellowing. Later, the affected leaves burn and the signs cover the leaves from the upper parts, which can subsequently fall off;
  • fading and gradually drying of the grapes.

While the economic losses from drought are expressed in a reduction in yield, low quality of grapes, delayed development of the vine in spring, weak root system, the drought often leads to complete destruction of the plantations. Therefore, it is good to cultivate vineyards under irrigation conditions.
