Winter rapeseed is a typical representative of this group and is defined as a wet crop. Watering is the most important factor for yield. To give a high yield, the rapeseed requires 600 to 800 mm of precipitation during the growing season. At 500-600mm, the yield is satisfactory, at 400 mm, it decreases significantly.
The need for moisture is not the same during the growing season. During the first 1,5 months, the watering levels are low, as plants usually have a sufficient amount of moisture stored in winter.
In case of insufficient moisture or uneven watering, the plant releases additional sprouts. This leads to the loss of the harvest and to complication in harvesting.
You should take these peculiarities into account if you are planning to water rapeseed:
- high demand for moisture (about double that of cereals);
- to germinate, the seeds need 50% more water than other crops of this group;
- the excess moisture is also undesirable (negatively affects the formation of seeds);
